DIMAPUR — The Kiphire district disaster management authority (DDMA) held a monsoon preparedness meeting on April 5 under the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner and chairman of DDMA, Kiphire, Temsuwati Longkumer.
A DIPR report stated that the National Highway (R&B) has been directed to ensure clearance of town roads including the roads leading towards the villages before heavy monsoon rain set in for public safety as well for convenience of transportation during the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
Other stakeholder departments have been directed to stay prepared.
It stated that petrol pump owners have been informed to keep the oil stock ready for emergencies, while Kiphire Town Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KTCCI) has been directed for availability of food stock. It added that Fire and Emergency Services, Medical, IR battalion including other stakeholders and departments have been directed to stay prepared in their respective tasks.
During the discussion, the members also decided to organise a mass social work in the town areas to clear the water stagnated areas and drainages blocked by waste deposits in the town for preventing landslides and safety of the public.
