Kiphire farmers can get agriculture service details via SMS

Dimapur, July 22 (EMN): District Agro-met unit (DAMU), Kiphire organised a one-day farmer’s awareness programme on gathering weather information using technology last week.
Held at Kiphire village on July 16, the farmers were told during the programme that the India Meteorological department (IMD) has come up with a mechanism to provide weather information to them by setting up Agro-met station (Damu), informed an update from DIPR.

“This will generate products such as land surface water index, land surface temperature, leaf area index which will provide information about agriculture service like irrigation, sowing and fertilizer application to farmers through short message services in their mobile,” it informed, adding that farmers were asked to register their phone numbers to get the update (information).

The farmers were also lauded for taking management strategies measures during the invasion of Fall Armyworm (FAW) on maize. There was interactive session towards the end of the programme to address the doubts of the farmers.

A total of 54 farmers attended the programme. Temjenna Jamir, SMS (Agro-Meteorology), and Setsiba Sangtam, AFA (DAO) Kiphire, were the resource persons of the event.
