Kigwema Basketball Club win U-19 basketball tourney
KOHIMA — Kigwema Basketball Club emerged victorious in a thrilling match at the St. Paul Basketball Court, Phesama, Kohima district, on Tuesday, defeating the host team, Golden Eagles Club, 34-25.
The victory secured the championship title for Kigwema Basketball Club in the inaugural Men’s Under-19 Basketball Tournament hosted by the Golden Eagles Club.
Kigwema Basketball Club received INR 7,000 in cash for winning the championship, while the runners-up, Golden Eagles Club, received INR 5,000.
Medosato Sale of Kigwema Basketball Club was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and received a prize of INR 1,000 for his outstanding performance.
The tournament, which lasted two action-packed days, featured 13 teams, with Team Ace from Kohima and Team MID from Dimapur finishing in the semifinals.
Following the match, Ruopfüvi Kevin Zashümo, president of the Golden Eagles Club, Phesama, told Eastern Mirror that the club was established on November 2, 2016, by a group of enthusiastic youngsters from various khels of Phesama with the motto, ‘Aim for the sky’.
Zashümo emphasised the club’s dual purpose, saying, “The first is to guide young individuals in channelling their energies towards constructive endeavours, and the second is to mould our members into a positive force for change within the village.”
