Kohima district’s Kigwema and Mitelephe villages have been declared ASF infected zones, with strict bans on pig slaughter, transport, and trade to contain the outbreak.

DIMAPUR — Following the detection of African Swine Fever (ASF) at Kigwema and Mitelephe villages in Kohima district, the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima has issued an official notification declaring the affected areas as infected and surveillance zones to control and contain the disease.
The notification, issued with reference to a letter from the Chief Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Kohima, dated Aug. 5, 2025, designates Kigwema and Mitelephe villages as infected zones, covering a one-kilometre radius around the infected premises. Surrounding these areas, a surveillance zone has been established, extending to a 10-kilometre radius from the infected premises (excluding the infected zone).
As part of containment measures, a complete ban has been imposed within the specified zones on the slaughter of pigs, import and export of pigs and piglets, and transportation of pigs and pork, until further notice.
