Kidima youth wrestling, sports meet underway
Kohima, Jan.4: The four-day long 52nd annual wrestling cum sports meet of Kidima Youth Organisation (KYO) got underway today at Kidima village local ground in Kohima district.
Altogether 450 sportsperson from six khels of Kidima village will be competing in Naga style wrestling (men), games, race and athletic events for both men and women.
Gracing the inaugural session as the honoured Guest, Nagaland PWD Engineer-in-Chief, Khupi Natso called upon sportsperson to give their best to excel in their respective discipline.
Recalling that Kidima has produced sportsperson in various different sports, including Naga Wrestling bringing laurel and fame to the village and Angamis in general in the past, he however lamented the absence of any good sportsperson at present.
In this regard, he commented ‘if the village youth is living in the past glories without working hard to achieve higher feels. ‘
Natso therefore urged upon the sportsperson to renew their spirit of achieving greater heights. He also called upon the participants to give their best so that spectators will enjoy watching their talent.
Earlier, Natso also unfurled the KYO flag and also took salute from the six khel marching contingents.
Chaired by KYO President Eyore Phinyo, dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Catechist of St Xavier Church Kidima Krovito George. KYO games & sports secretary Meyiesa Phinyo administered oath to the participants.
Chairman of Kidima Village Council Visiito Yore will grace the valedictory function as guest of honour on January 7 next at 2 pm.
