Our Correspondent Kohima, June 8 (EMN): A village in Phek district called Khezhakeno has a 'tribal museum' now. The additional deputy commission (ADC) of Pfutsero, Zeneikhonuo Vimero, inaugurated the museum, on June 7 in the village. The museum was funded by the ministry of Culture, and constructed by a group called the Charity Welfare Society of Khezhakeno. In her address during the event, the ADC expressed hope that the museum will become a centre for 'traditional education.' “It is a significant day for Pfutsero sub-division because of the opening an ancestral museum,” she. She said visiting the village is like a ‘pilgrimage,’ with the scenic beauty of Cheda Lake and now the tribal museum to add to the area's appeal. Vimero hoped that the workmanship in tribal work and the efforts that go into collecting the artefacts would remind people about the tradition and culture of the Naga people's forefathers. Acknowledging the effort of the CWS, the officer said they had become ambassadors for the division though taking the initiative to construct the museum to showcase the cultural heritage of the people of the area. The chairman of the society Ezekiel Koza said that the tribal museum began with a motive to preserve traditional artefacts of the Chakhesang people in particular and of the Nagas in general. The group felt the need to preserve the age-old artefacts as they are either vanishing or were destroyed with the coming of Christianity to Nagaland. Koza said that the construction work started in December 2017 and was completed in April this year. Although the museum was constructed by the group, it will belong to the village, he said and appealed to the denizens of the area to contribute and preserve the artefacts of the forefathers for the generations to experience and see. Among others, representatives of various civic groups undertaking museum construction in other parts of the state were also present during the inaugural programme.
