Khelo India women’s basketball tournament underway in Dimapur
DIMAPUR — Khelo India Asmita Women’s League Dimapur leg of 3×3 basketball tournament got underway at the JV Foundation Basket Court, Signal, Dimapur, on Wednesday with Vitoto Chishi, former state player, as the special guest of the inauguration event.
The Asmita Women’s League is a programme under Khelo India to promote sports among women in India. In association with Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Basketball Federation of India, the league aims to increase the participation of women in sports by organising various leagues to utilise the leagues as a platform for identification of new talents, evaluation of existing Khelo India athletes and to provide competition exposure to women athletes of different age categories across the country.
In the inaugural match, All Blacks (Kohima) trounced Elite A (Dimapur) 16-2 in regulation time. Reena of All Blacks scored 7 points.
The second match saw Elite B (Dimapur) easily defeat Splendid (Jalukie) 9-1, while in the third match of Round-1, Orca’s Sosen scored 4 points to lead Orca (Kohima) in a close win against TMB (Kohima) by a solitary point 8-7.
The Dimapur leg of 3×3 basketball tournament would be part of a 50 cities programme overlooked by the Basketball Federation of India and its associate members across India. Dimapur city league is being organised by Dimapur District Basketball Association, in collaboration with Nagaland Basketball Association.
