Kohima, July 28 (EMN): United 16 FC registered their first win in the second edition of the Kohima Football League after defeating New Market FC 2-1 played here at the Kohima local ground on Saturday.
United 16 in their league matches have so far drawn one match and two losses in four matches. With the win, United will moved above New Market FC in 5th position with four points and New Market in 6th place with three points.
In the match, Jonathan Koso opened the account for United 16 in the 5th minute to take the lead. New Market got back the equalising goal before the end of the first half in the 44
th minute through Salu Kulim to make it 1-1.
With both sides failing to break the deadlock, the second half was ending in a stalemate, but Tongpangnungshi rose up to the occasion to score in the extra time for United 16 to register their first win in the tournament.
Sechu Zubza and Vanguard FC end in stalemate
League leaders Sechu Zubza FC failed to dominate the game as Vanguard continued their winning momentum to snatch a point against Sechu Zubza 2-2 in an encounter.
It was Vanguard FC who took the lead through the captain in 12th minute. But Sechu Zubza came back with the equaliser in the 22th minute through their striker Petevizo Kezieo.
Shurhosul Zhotso gave the lead for Sechu Zubza in the 38th minute but in the midst of the goal celebration, the goal was cut short within a minute as Nyithong seized the opportunity to score the equaliser in the 39th minute to end the first half 2-2.
The second half saw a lacklustre side as both team failed to score giving the opportunities that came their way to find the back of the net, the match ended in 2-2.
With the draw, Sechu Zubza will retain the top of the table with 8 points in four matches and Vanguard remained in 4th position with 5 points in Kohima Football League table.
