Kohima, Feb. 8 (EMN): Kezhavizo Thevo from Chedema village became the champion of the first Chakhesang Open Wrestling 2019 and walked home richer with INR 1,20,000 along with citation at Pfutsero Sports Complex, in Phek district on Fri. Feb. 8.
The Angami wrestler emerged winner after defeating Mudotü Veswüh of Süthozu Nasa village in Phek district. Veswüh, who got the first runner-up was awarded with INR 80,000.
Meanwhile the third place was bagged by Venuzo Vadeo after defeating Putuzo Keyho. Vadeo walked away with INR 40,000, while the fourth position got INR 20,000. Altogether, 63 wrestlers participated in the first open wrestling meet.
Earlier, Neikhrolo Khalo, former Nagaland Wrestling Association president in his address said that the government is serious about promoting sports, as sports policy will soon be furnished, which will grant reservations for the sportsperson in job opportunities.
Also, in what may appear as a ray of hope for the Naga style wrestling, he said that wrestling will be inducted as a state sports, which has got an approval from both the state government as well as NWA.
The event organised by Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) was inagurated by vice president, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and former Nagaland Wrestling president Neikhrolo Khalo.
