Kevirielie Liegeise clinches KYO wrestling meet title

KHONOMA — In an impressive display of skill and prowess, Kevirielie Liegeise secured the champion’s title at the 53rd Khonoma Youth Organisation wrestling meet held at Khonoma village on Thursday.

Liegeise dominated the final, executing two takedowns on opponent Kelhusalie Pier.

Mesaroko Pier secured the third position after taking down Thekrusevi Thou twice.

The champion was awarded cash prize of INR 12,000, while the runner-up received INR 10,000.

The third and fourth-placed winners were awarded INR 8,000 and INR 5,000, respectively.

Naga style wrestling, deeply rooted in the traditions of the Tenyimia tribes, holds significant cultural importance.

Passed down by forefathers, this traditional form of wrestling has transcended its historical roots to become a popular sport played in numerous villages today.

Winners often undergo rigorous training to compete at higher levels of competition.
