KOHIMA, JUNE 17: Kevilekho Zumvu has emerged as the champion of the 15th Nagaland State ‘A’ Chess Premier, 2016 with 7 ½ points. The event was organized by the Nagaland Chess Association.
Melesai Dawho with 7 points, Mughaho Awomi and Sukhavi Achumi both with 6 points each were declared as first runner-up, second runner-up and third runner-up respectively. The winners were awarded with cash prizes and a citation each.
While declaring the results, Lhokiye Yeputhomi, vice president of the Nagaland Chess Association informed that the winners will be representing Nagaland at the National Chess Challenger 2016 to be held at Noida, UP from July 8-19, 2016.The Joint Director, Directorate of Youth resources and Sports, Rato Pusa was the guest of honor at the valedictory function held on Friday. He informed that the department was discussing about enhancing the grant-in-aid for the sportspersons, and to regularize the “service” of Mughaho Awomi, a three-time national open championship winner.
Pusa also informed that a ‘Catch Them Young Tournament” for under -14 players has been scheduled to be held in the month of July. The tournament, he said, would include the discipline of chess also.
