DIMAPUR — Kelechülie Zumu of Urra village was declared champion of the 53rd edition of Chakhroma Wrestling Meet held at Thepfü Thepfü ground in Chümoukedima town on February 5.
Neikotsilie Krose of Medziphema town secured the runner-up title, while Khrietuo Khwükha and Miaziekho Khwükha won the third and four places respectively.
In the under-15 category, Visalhoukho Tsükrü of Medziphema village defeated Kovi Seyie to claim the championship title, while the third place was won by Razoukhrie Yhoshü and fourth place by Mhasilhoulie Nagi.
The best tactic wrestler in the senior category was awarded to Terhüjavi Terhüja of Tsüüma village and Vilhousie Kuotsu of Medziphema village was awarded in the under-15 category.

An update from the organisers stated that the overall group champion was won by Group-D.
Advisor of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, who attended the event as the chief guest, has highlighted the significance of Naga wrestling. Citing that only Tenyimia tribes used to participate in Naga wrestling in the early days, he attributed the growing popularity of Naga wrestling today to the efforts of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) which has uplifted the sport with much needed changes and brought professionalism in the sport.
He expressed optimism that the sport would further grow with the involvement of other tribes such as Sumi, Lotha, Chang, Rengma, Sangtam, Pochury etc. He encouraged all the other Naga tribes to practice and popularise this Naga indigenous sport. He also highlighted the significant role of the state government in promoting games and sports in Nagaland today.

The chief guest further encouraged the budding wrestlers to maintain discipline and consistency on and off the mat to achieve success in life. He also thanked the Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO) for improving and promoting the traditional wrestling sport in Chakhroma areas.
The event was organised by Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO) and hosted by Chümoukedima circle of Chakhroma Youth Organisation.
Highlight of the day was the commissioning of the new wrestling mat, which was donated to Chakhroma Youth Organisation by the Rajya Sabha MP, S Phangnon Konyak, under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MP-LADS).
The programme concluded with a word of encouragement to the wrestlers delivered by the guest of honour, Zasivikho Zakiesato, president of Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF). He also thanked the organising team for providing a platform for young wrestlers.
