Dimapur, Sep. 8 (EMN): The Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC) expressed astonishment over the decision of the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and BJP to opt for an opposition-less government by taking on board the opposition Naga People’s Front (NPF) with the nomenclature Nagaland United Government (NUG) on the pretext of Naga political solution.
KDCC president, Kevi Vizo, claimed that an opposition-less government in Nagaland was the brain-child of NPF as it managed to lure eight Congress MLAs in 2015 into the then DAN government on the same excuse of strengthening the efforts to find solution to the Naga political problem. It added that the political upheaval of the last opposition-less DAN government is still fresh as the functioning of the government was based either in Kaziranga or Sovima thereby completely putting the state and its denizens in hysteria.
KDCC reminded the repeated statements of the government of India as well as the interlocutor and Governor of Nagaland, RN Ravi, that integration of Naga inhabited areas is not possible while also disagreeing to grant separate Naga flag and constitution.
It also expressed surprise to note that the present NDPP-led PDA government had constituted a Parliamentary Committee on Naga political issue, which has all the elected representatives of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and the two MPs of the State as members with a core committee to take forward the issue.
“Is the coming together of the legislators under the banner of the Parliamentary Committee on NPI not enough for them to strengthen the Naga issue and also persuade the national leadership to grant a solution that the opposition NPF legislators have to join the ruling dispensation superseding all the norms of a democratic setup?” it asked.
“Cannot the opposition bench members maintain the decorum to be in their own jurisdiction to voice the concern of the public and keep the government on its toes for the general welfare while also working cohesively with the treasury bench to facilitate the Naga political issue?” it added.
KDCC stated that Naga political struggle should be people centric and not an instrument for the elected representatives to fool the public for their own political gains. It was of the view that the present game of having NUG is another attempt of both the ruling and opposition parties in the state to fulfil their own political whims and fancies at the cost of the public.
KDCC also demanded the political parties to make their stand clear on Naga integration without which a solution to the vexed struggle would be farce. It also asked the political parties to make their proposals public on the approach towards facilitating the Naga solution under NUG.
Meanwhile, KDCC appreciated the article written on Naga political issues by Sevotso Seyie saying it is time for every conscious Naga to rise up to the occasion and express their views and opinions in order to have a clear understanding within the Naga family.
KDCC further urged the civil society organisations in the state to wake up from the slumber and work towards voicing the welfare of the public instead of being fooled with the false assurances of the elected representatives “for Naga political solution.”
