KCK organises webinar on violence against women

Dimapur, May 20 (EMN): English department of Kohima College, Kohima (KCK) organised a two-day international webinar on ‘Violence against women and women’s writing in English’ on May 19 and 20.

An update from the college stated that the webinar was organised with an aim to look at the issue of violence against women in the society, to broaden understanding of what constitutes violence against women, and to discuss ways to end violence against women and achieve gender equity.

It stated that the inaugural session was chaired by its assistant professor Dr. Konei Nakhro, while the keynote address was delivered by senior lecturer of Anthropology and development Studies Programme, University of Melbourne, Dr. Dolly Kikon. It added that the welcome address was delivered by head of English department, Megovono Üsou, and the introductory note was presented by Dr. Theyiesinuo Keditsu, webinar convener and assistant professor.

Report stated that a total of 15 papers were presented by eminent writers, scholars, activists, faculty spread across India and outside in four sessions, followed by Q&A/ discussion rounds after each session.

The webinar concluded with a valedictory speech by Prof. Rakhee Kalita Moral, head of Centre for Women’s Studies and associate professor of English, Cotton University. The vote of vote of thanks was delivered by assistant professor, Khriezenuo Vizo.
