BRIDGE COLLAPSE
Dimapur, July 18 (EMN): The Khaghaboto Area Students' Union on Tuesday has come in support of the three students bodies of Nuiland, Ato Area and Kuhuboto Gkakhu that had earlier on July 15 demanded the government for a temporary bridge within 15 days.
"Taking serious note of the demand made by the 3 Student Bodies regarding the collapse of Bridge over Chathe River, the Khaghaboto Area Students' Union extends its unflinching support to the demands made by the Student Bodies," stated a press note from the student body appended by its president X Chopika Sumi and general secretary Anatoli Zhimomi.
The union also stated that the demands being genuine it should have been acted upon on priority basis but it is shocked that the concerned department is yet to take up any initiative to provide alternative arrangements except diverting the route which is in "deplorable condition".
"The Union appeals the PWD(R&B) to provide suspension bridepliable for four wheelers at the earliest slmllar to thebridge at Shozukhu-Zukihe Village under Khaghaboto Area of Niuland Sub-Divlsion, although the said bridge was built and maintained by the locals," it stated.
However the union stated that the villagers are not in a position to afford materials to build the bridge, so the department should provide the requisite materials and technical know-how so that the nearby villages will "provide manpower as much and as and when needed".
"The union therefore once again appeals to the concerned department to immediately look in to the matter and consider the plight of the thousands of villagers who are facing untold troubles on a daily basis."
