Dimapur, Sep. 14 (EMN): Kashiram Village Council (KVC) along with the Kashiram Youth Organisation (KYO) organised a mass social work to repair the stretch of road leading from Eden Hospital and Maple Tree School till Kashiram village junction on September 11.
A KVC press release stated that few potholes developed since eight years ago have multiplied and grown in size making it difficult to ply on the road. It added that the stretch of road was maintained by the Rangapahar army cantonment.
It stated that non maintenance of the road by the Rangapahar army cantonment in the past ten to eleven years has resulted in gradual deterioration. It added that bad roads not only add misery to the commuters but also damage the vehicles.
As all its requests to the concerned authority to repair the road fell on deaf ears, it stated the village council and youth organisation decided to take up the matter by themselves. Following the decision, the two organisations undertook a donation drive to which the residents willingly came forward with cash and kind as well as labour/ manpower.
It stated that major contributions were made by Sanen, proprietor of Maple Tree School; Dr. Maongwati; Imo Jamir, commissioner and secretary of planning; Viketoulie, PHE; Thejao Mephfu; and Obangwati Pongen, junior engineer of Rural Development.
The village council further appealed to the responsible authority to look into the matter and do the needful.
