Kashanyu celebrates Ngada
Residents of Kashanyu village present a cultural item on the occasion of Ngada festival celebration on November 28.

Dimapur, Nov. 29 (EMN): Kashanyu village, one of the oldest Rengma Naga village under Tseminyu sub-division in Kohima district, celebrated Ngada festival at Kashanyu Renshu (Morung) with Tesinlo Semy, mining engineer and project director (MM), as the special guest and SK Tep, retired executive engineer of PHED, as the guest of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Semy highlighted the rich traditions of the Rengmas and encouraged the youth and young people to live a good moral life and focus on all round development.

Also addressing the gathering, Tep stated that Ngada is among the most popular festivals in Nagaland. He stated that it is thanksgiving festival which is celebrated after a successful harvest.

In a keynote address, Kashanyu youth president Shyerhunlo Cheng declared the village as plastic-free. He also urged the members to focus on conserving environment.

An update from Kashanyu youth president Shyerhunlo Cheng and the advisor Kegwayhun Tep stated a new Renshü (Morung) at Kashanyu was inaugurated coincided with Ngada festival. The Morung was constructed by Kashanyu youth by using only indigenous materials.

The programme was chaired by Kegwasin Seb. Kashanyu cultural troops presented Ngada dance and Pelunyu presented folk song.
