Diphu, Oct. 28 (EMN): The Karbi Students’ Association and its allied organisations organised a road blockade demonstration at Manja-Tinali stopping traffic for two hours along NH 36 and the Diphu-Manja Highway.
The protest was against the extension of the Naga areas thought to be part of the Aug. 3 framework agreement between the NSCN (IM) and the government of India covering 7399 square KM, as alleged by the union.
Although the protest was scheduled from 10 am to 12 noon, it was dispersed by the police only to be staged again in the afternoon. “It is the Congress’ second coming in the name of BJP to merge Karbi Anglong to (sic) Nagaland. The encroachment of Lahorijan, Dillai, Hidipi have destroyed virgin forests along the border areas of Karbi Anglong. It is also an eye witness (sic) that illegal construction by thousands of people from Nagaland without any disturbances from Forest Department of Karbi Anglong while the state government became a silent spectator are all parts of such conspiracy,” the association claimed.
In this regard protestors stated that they have submitted a memorandum to the prime minister and the home minister of the country.
