Karbi MIL textbooks for Class 10 11 released

Diphu, May 3 (EMN): Karbi Modern Indian Language (MIL) textbooks for Class 10  ‘Karbi Lammet Amunjin’ and ‘Lammet Amanim’ for Class 11  for the session 2022-23 was formally released in a function held at Sarsing Teron (Langkung) Habe Memorial Town Hall, Matipung on Tuesday.

The textbook for Class 10 ‘Karbi Lammet Amunjin’ is prepared and approved by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam and published by the Assam State Textbook Production and Publication Corporation Limited, Guwahati. The books are for free distribution.

The editorial board members include Sing Kro, Mondor Teron, Bikash Teron, Ronjit Hanse, Kiri Ronghang, Meerklar Teronpi and Hunali Englengpi. There are 10 articles in the prose section and five poems in the poetry section, contributed by different writers.

 While for higher secondary Class-11 textbook ‘Lammet Amanim’ has been prescribed by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council and prepared by Karbi Language Development Board and Editorial Board, Higher Secondary Level, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).

Chairman of Karbi Language Development Board (KLDB), KAAC, Longsing Teron is the editor and vice president, Karbi Lammet Amei, (KLA) Hukursing Rongpi is the sub-editor of the editorial board.

The members include Principal, DIET, Karbi Anglong, Kakrai Teronpi; Assistant Professor, department of English, Diphu Govt. College Maggie Katharpi; Assistant Professor, department of Zoology, Diphu Govt. College, Rongjit Hanse; Assistant Professor, Centre for Studies in Karbi Language and Culture, under Dibrugarh University, Diphu, Meerklar Teronpi; Lecturer,DIET, Karbi Anglong, Karnel Teron; Educator, Basic Training Centre, Diphu, Sarsing Tisso; HOD, Centre for Studies in Karbi Language and Culture, Diphu, Khoyasing Hanse and former president, Karbi Lammet Amei, Khorsing Teron.

Releasing the books the Chief Executive Member (CEM), KAAC Tuliram Ronghang expressed his thanks and gratitude to Chairman, KLDB, KAAC, Longsing Teron and his team for taking the initiative.

 “Chairman of KLDB Longsing Teron has taken much initiative and has spent his time and energy in going to the SEBA office not once, but several times for preparation of the textbooks. It was due to dedication and sincere effort by him and his team mates that today we could inaugurate Karbi MIL textbooks,” he said.

CEM also said SEBA has granted teaching of Karbi language upto Class 12.

As per national New Education Policy, there is emphasis that medium of instruction at lower level should be mother tongue. There is effort by the KAAC to have Karbi language as subject upto Class 10 by appointing Karbi Language Teachers (KLT) in all Karbi dominated areas in Northeast India, the CEM said.

He also said at the start the salary of KLT was just INR 2,500. It was increased to INR 6000 and now it is INR 15,000. Discussion is on with Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu for post creation of KLT so that they get the same salary with the Assam government employees, he said.

Clarifying to the query from media persons on the indefinite protest by Podmo Teron and his colleagues infront of KAAC gate, demanding cancellation of alleged illegal appointment in the office of Joint Director of Health Services, Karbi Anglong, the CEM said’ sitting in front of Council gate is not the solution.’ A written complaint should be submitted, and then only the KAAC will constitute an enquiry committee to investigate the matter, he added.
