Karbi literary body elects new president, vice presidents

DIPHU — Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA), the Karbi literary body, held elections for president and two vice presidents for the new term 2024-2026 at the KLA central committee office, Lumding Road, on Saturday.

Former general secretary Kamsing Hanse, incumbent president Barim Ingti, and Dhonsing Terang were the candidates for president. Karon Hansepi, Hukursing Rongpi, and Liladhar Teron were the candidates for first vice president, and Liladhar Teron, Ramsing Phangcho, and Jorsing Bey were the candidates for second vice president.

All 65 central committee office bearers, presidents and secretaries of 10 regional committees, and presidents and secretaries of 95 branch offices were eligible to vote. Ballot papers were used to cast votes.

Former general secretary Kamsing Rongpi was elected president. Karon Hansepi was re-elected as first vice president for the second time, while Ramsing Phangcho was elected as second vice president.

The general secretary will be chosen at the 2024 annual conference.
