Karbi Lammet Amei observes literary day

- DIPHU — Karbi
Lammet Amei (KLA), a literary body, celebrated its 59th foundation day ‘Lammet
Arani’ (Karbi literary day) at Lammet Hemtun KLA central committee, Lumding
Road, on Thursday.
- Karbis have their own distinctive language, culture and
tradition, which is different from other tribes.
- Attending as the chief guest, Chief Executive Member (CEM)
of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang announced that the
KLA foundation will henceforth be declared as Karbi literary day.
- The CEM emphasised that a person's first and foremost
responsibility is to love and cherish their own mother tongue. He lamented that
in Assam, there are several tribes where many people have forgotten their
native language and now speak only in Assamese.
- “It is very fortunate that Karbis have not forgotten their
language and they can speak and write as well,” Ronghang said.
- On the memorandum submitted by the KLA for recognition of
Karbi language as official language within the jurisdiction of KAAC, the CEM
assured that it will be discussed in the next Executive Committee (EC) meeting
of KAAC.
- He also assured that the CEC meeting will take up the
provincialisation of Karbi medium schools and regularisation of posts of Karbi
medium teachers.
- On allotment of land from the KAAC for construction of
offices of all KLA branches, the CEM informed that he has already been directed
to the Land & Revenue department for allotment of land.
- INR 20 lakh has been allotted to the Works department, KAAC,
for construction of KLA Kamrup Longri Amei office, he said.
- “As there is water scarcity in the office of KLA, Diphu, the
PHE department will make necessary arrangements for sufficient water facility,”
he added.
- Kamsing Hanse, president of KLA chaired the meeting. Among
others, KAAC chairman Raju Tisso and deputy chairman, Avijit Kro, including EMs
and MACs and general secretary, KLA, Liladhar Teron, attended the meeting.
