Diphu, April 4 (EMN): The Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (KADCC) organised a protest demonstration with the slogan ‘Mehenggai Mukta Bharat Abhijan’ against price hike of petrol, diesel, LPG and other essential commodities by the present BJP led government at Semson Sing Engti Memorial Park in Diphu on Monday.

Congress workers took a procession from the KADCC office to the park. The party workers shouted anti-government slogans and asked for reduction of prices of petrol, diesel and essential commodities.

Participating in the protest demonstration the president, KADCC and former HAD minister, Sum Ronghang criticised Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).

Tuliram Ronghang has so much money. But it is not his hard earned money.  It is the public money meant for taking up development activities. He has misappropriated all the funds meant for development purposes. Now the KAAC election is coming and if Tuliram Ronghang gives you money you should take it as it is your money, but don’t vote for him, he stated.

Addressing media persons, chairman of media cell, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Monjit Mahanta said that from April 1, the price of  all commodities including petrol, diesel and LPG have been increasing.

The assembly elections in various states are over and now, the government has again started to increase prices of commodities to harass the people, he said.

Mahanta also said that the government has not spared medicines as prices of various life saving drugs have increased considerably. “The price of insulin has increased, which is causing inconvenience to diabetic patients. The BJP party said ‘ache din aye’, but is this ‘ache din aye’ for the common people”, he questioned.

If chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma can’t rule the state he should resign, Mahanta said and added that ‘there are many efficient and capable leaders, who can rule the state’.

When asked about the visit of the prime minister and Assam chief minister the chairman said that as ‘the KAAC election is coming, they are coming here bringing with them full bags of lies’.

The protest demonstration was attended by vice president of APCC, Raju Sahu, general secretary incharge Karbi Anglong district, Gulap Saikia, vice presidents and general secretaries of KADCC.
