Karbi Anglong CSOs burn effigy of Congress MLA over his statement on eviction drive
DIPHU — The Autonomous State Demand Committee Youth Front (ASDCYF) and Karbi Students’ Association (KSA-Jemson) staged a sit-in at the Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) office in Diphu on Friday to protest the statement of Congress leader Debabrata Saikia, MLA and Leader of Opposition.
ASDCYF and KSA burnt the effigy of the MLA for allegedly saying that the eviction under process by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) in Professional Grazing Reserve (PGR) and Village Grazing Reserve (VGR) land is unlawful.
“The Congress in Karbi Anglong should clarify its stand on the statement of Debabrata Saikia. An all-party meeting has already been held on the matter,” said President of KSA Jemson Timung.
Meanwhile, the All Bodo Students’ Union, Karbi Anglong District Committee and all Bodo organisations in Karbi Anglong district in a meeting expressed support to Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) in the move to carry out eviction drive on Professional Grazing Reserve (PGR) and Village Grazing Reserve (VGR).
It may be noted that the KAAC has begun the process of evicting encroachers from PGR and VGR land after the attack on KSA- Jemson Timung members in Kheroni Sariali, West Karbi Anglong on February 15.
The Bodo organisations’ meeting at Langhin, Karbi Anglong, was presided over by the president of ABSU, Karbi Anglong, Kalyan Rabha Brahma. They appealed to maintain peace and harmony in the district while stating that no legitimate residents should be affected in the eviction process.
