  • DIPHU — A delegation led by the chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, along with MP Amarsing Tisso; MLA Dorsing Ronghang and executive member KAAC including Lunsing Teron, Ritesh Enghi and Prabhat Chandra Taro, met the Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Jual Oram, on Thursday and submitted a memorandum requesting for allocation of funds under Article 275 (1) for hill tribes.

  • Ronghang made important suggestions to the Union Minister of Tribal Affairs for the creation of a separate executive committee (EC) for hill districts with the senior-most secretary of the Hills Area Department as chairman and the principal secretaries of KAAC and Dima Hasao Autonomous Council as member secretaries.

  • The executive committee would decide the implementing agency for each district. At the district level, the secretary in-charge of Rural Development along with the concerned district council would serve as the chairman with head of departments under the district councils as members.

  • The changes would ensure a fair and dedicated allocation of funds for the development of the hill areas, the CEM expressed.

  • The delegation looks forward to a positive response and swift action to benefit the tribal communities of the two hill districts through the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
