Kannada actor Mandeep Roy passes away

Bengaluru, Jan.29: Veteran Kannada actor Mandeep Roy has passed away on the wee hours of Sunday, January 29. He was aged 79.

The actor breathed his last around 1.45 am after suffering a massive heart attack at his residence in Kaval Bairasandra, his daughter Akshata confirmed the news of his death to the media.

His final rites will be performed at a crematorium in Hebbal.

In December 2022, he had suffered a heart attack and he underwent treatment at a hospital in Seshadripuram.

Who was Mandeep Roy?

Mandeep Roy was basically from Mumbai. He started acting in dramas at the age of nine. During the course, he had met Sandalwood legend late Shankar Nag. Nag then introduced him to Kannada with 'Minchina Oota'. As Roy was not able to speak Kannad at that time, he was given a script written in Hindi.

However, this had not gone well with a section of film industry who criticised Roy was doing a role without knowing the language. Thereafter, he learnt the language with the help of Shankar Nag's mother and actor Shivaram and dubbed his own voice for his roles. Since then, he worked with many stalwarts of South Indian cinema like Dr Rajkumar, Vishnuvardhan, Kamal Haasan, Anant Nag, Ramesh Aravind, Ambareesh, Ravichandran, Darshan, Upendra and Puneeth Rajkumar among others.
