DIPHU: The delegations of Karbi Anglong Dima Hasao Autonomous State Demand Committee (KADHASDCOM) and its allies held a sit-in at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi on Thursday to pressure the Central government for immediate implementation of Article 244(A) of the Indian constitution for granting the autonomous state comprising the three hill districts of Assam i.e. Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.

More than 400 delegates from the three hill districts participated in the two-hour demonstration from 11 am to 1 pm. 

The participating organisations include KSA – Inglongpho; Dimasa Students Union; Karbi Riso Adorbar; Karbi So-Arlo Amei (KARSA), Karbi Unemployed Youth Association; Karbi Adorbar; Jadikhe Neisho Hasom; Tiwa dorbar and Karbi Anglong Rong Asar Amei.

The delegation left for New Delhi on March 21 from Diphu. The KADHASDCOM and its allies have been holding sit-in- demonstrations during Parliament sessions to raise their voice before the central government to end the political demand of the people of the hill districts of Assam.
Participating in the demonstration, the MP from No. 3 Autonomous District (ST) Parliamentary Constituency, Horensing Bey said a private member bill will be placed during this budget session for discussion of Article 244(A) of the constitution.

Bey said, ‘today, I met the Minister of State for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai and apprised him that I have a private member bill to be placed in Parliament. If the private member bill is discussed in Parliament it will be a step ahead for autonomous state demand.’

Bey said that there are some organisations making fun of the demonstration without actually knowing the struggle. He urged the KADHASDCOM and its allies to continue with the struggle until the demand for an autonomous state is achieved.

President, KADHASDCOM, Ajit Timung said that so far the KADHASCOM, KSA and DSU have held two rounds of initial talks with the central government and two rounds of secretariat level talks on April 23, 2001 and September 24, 2002.

Timung demanded that the Parliament should pass for implementation of Article 244(A) of the constitution.

Later, the delegation submitted a memorandum to President of India, Draupadi Murmu; Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister, Amit Shah.
