Diphu, Feb. 10 (EMN): The Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (KADCC) on Wednesday carried out a protest rally against the alleged land scandal of RBS Realtors Pvt. Limited and Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

A memorandum was submitted to the Governor of Assam, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi through DC, Karbi Anglong, demanding judicial enquiry by a sitting judge of Guahati High Court against the land scandal.

The firm bought the land in two phases in 2006-07 and 2009 which violated the Land Policy 1989 and Ceiling Act 1956, read the memorandum.

It further mentioned that in 2006-07, Revenue department, Govt. of Assam allotted 17 bighas, two kattas and five lessa in the name of a fishery and a welfare activity school in North Guwahati but mysteriously, RBS Realtors Pvt. Ltd. purchased the land within a year violating all norms of Land Act and Land Policy of Assam.

Again in 2009, under Palashbari Revenue Circle, the firm purchased another land of 11 bighas, three kathas and four lessa, which were initially allotted to the landless poor people of Bangara village breaching all rules.

The Congress alleged that RBS Realtors Pvt. Ltd. resorted to manipulation, dishonesty and corruptions and infringed all the rules and regulation of revenue department as well as Assam Land and Revenue (Legislation 1886, Ceiling Act 1956, Assam Land Policy 1989 and 2019.

The Congress leaders said, ‘The chief minister speaks about zero tolerance against corruption, brokers and endeavoured to minimise corruption, how then his own family members got involved in such a big land scandal. This is very shameful for a person like him’.

The memorandum was submitted by Ghana Buragohain, district observer from APCC and former MLA, Ratan Engti, vice-president, KADCC and others.
