KAAC pays homage to legendary figure Kajir Ronghangpi

Diphu, Dec. 5 (EMN): The Art and Culture department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC)paid homage to Karbi legendary figure Kajir Ronghangpi at Kajir Ronghangpi Memorial Park, Kohora under Duarbagori Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) on Monday.
Participating in the observation was the Chief Executive Member (CEM), KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang alongwith Chairman, KAAC, Raju Tisso; MP Horensing Bey; MLAs, Executive Member (EMs), KAAC and Member of Autonomous Council (MACs) paid floral tribute and garlanded the statue of Kajir Ronghangpi.
According to myth, the present word ‘Kaziranga’ came from the name Kajir Ronghangpi. The female legendary figure Kajir Ronghangpi was the daughter of Hok Ronghang, and was taken and brought up in the abode of gods and goddesses. On attaining divinity and being blessed with certain divine powers, Kajir Ronghangpi came down to earth in search of her parents and brothers. She re-built the territory of her father in and around the present Kaziranga National Park. She brought with her ‘kindu’ – rhinoceros for tilling the earth. Kajir Ronghangpi went back to the abode of gods leaving the kindu in the territory.
The CEM said from next year, the paying of homage to Kajir Ronghangpi will be organised as an important day in line with the death anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan.
“From next year the KAAC has decided to observe ‘homage to Kajir Ronghangpi’ as an important day in line with the observation of the death anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan. It will be a day-long observation with a cultural night in the evening,” the CEM said.
A spot painting competition was also organised for children.
The programme was chaired by EM, KAAC, Health and Family Welfare and Art and Culture, Surjya Rongphar.
