KAAC Election: Nilip constituency voters against Dr. Rongpi’s candidature
Diphu, May 18 (EMN): Voters of Nilip Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituency have opposed Dr. Mongve Rongpi, the former spokesperson of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), who recently joined the BJP and seeking a party ticket from Nilip constituency in the ensuing Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) election.
‘Team Nilip’ led by former MAC, Semson Tisso and former KSA president Bijoy Bey, Barnabas Killing and Khogen Terang have opposed Dr. Rongpi’s candidature from the constituency.
In a press conference, held at District Press Club of Karbi Anglong in Diphu, former MAC Tisso said, “We have come to know that Dr. Mongve Rongpi is seeking a BJP ticket from Nilip MAC constituency. We are opposing it as we don’t want a person from outside to come and contest elections here”.
We are not against Dr. Rongpi, but we are opposing his candidature as he is not a resident of Nilip. We want a candidate from Nilip, Tisso said and further urged the state BJP leaders not to issue the party ticket to Dr. Rongpi or the sitting Nilip MAC, Pobitra Rongpi.
Dr. Rongpi joined BJP on May 13 in the presence of Assam Pradesh BJP President, Bhabesh Kalita; Dhansing Teron, President of BJP-EKADC and Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of KAAC at BJP-EKADC office in Diphu .
