The CEM of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang on Saturday clarified the misunderstanding surrounding the up-gradation of Diphu Government College into state university following an uproar regarding the matter on social media.

Speaking to media persons, CEM Tuliram Ronghang said, ‘First of all, I on behalf of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts thank Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and state Finance minister, Ajanta Neog for adopting the resolution to establish a state university for Karbi Anglong in order to develop the education scenario of the region’.

‘However, Diphu Government College (DGC) will not be up-graded into a state university. DGC will remain as it is. I urge the people of Karbi Anglong not to misunderstand. Tenders for elementary education, secondary education, higher education including polytechnic, DIET, Law and B.ed College in West Karbi Anglong have been called and these are all adopted from state education policy. The salaries of the lecturers and infrastructural building including staff quarters has been given from Assam government’, CEM stated.

CEM Ronghang also said, ‘We have accepted the resolution in our executive meeting (EC) to allocate 5000 bighas of land to set up a state university at Khanduli in West Karbi Anglong’.

‘Regarding the up-gradation of Assam University, Diphu Campus (AUDC) into a full-fledged central university, we are in the process and we have met the Central Minister of Human Resources Development several times. Hopefully, within one or two years the vision will be realised’, CEM added.
