Diphu, Sep. 3 (EMN): A joint eviction drive was carried out by the Forest department, district administration and Law and Order, to flush out encroachers settling at Marat Longri Wildlife Sanctuary under TamulBari District Council Reserve Forest (DCRF) in Diphu-Lumding road on Saturday.

The DCRF is under the East Forest Division.

The eviction drive was led by DFO, East Division, Jaganath Rongpi.

The eviction team consisting of Assam police and para-military personnel and Forest staff with the help of earthmovers demolished the temporary structures and tree houses constructed by the encroachers.

Rongpi said that large forest areas inside Marat Longri Wildlife Sanctuary were occupied by encroachers, so in order to stop further degradation of the environment the joint eviction drive was carried out.

‘This is an initial step and about 50 temporary structures including tree houses were demolished with the help of earthmovers. The eviction drive carried today is to warn individuals to stop encroaching forest land be it reserve forest or wildlife sanctuary. Let the forest survive and allow trees to grow,’ the DFO said.

While warning the encroachers, he said that such eviction drives will continue in other areas too.
