Dimapur, May 24 (EMN): The president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) K Therie has taken exception to the Lok Sabha MP Tokheho Yepthomi’s reported statement that Citizenship Amendment Bill is not a threat to the Naga people.

“The Amendment does not speak of overstayed people only but is with the objective to accommodate any person from the six mentioned (sic) religious communities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, making them eligible for citizenship if the period of residence is not less than six years.

“As per the amendment, even those individuals who have illegally entered and stayed in India in the past and who fulfil the stated time frame shall be eligible for Indian citizenship.

“Nobody can stop them from enjoying the Constitutional provisions and entitlements such as voting rights, owning properties and legal protections. They will come in terms of crores in matters of a decade and we will be submerged under the ocean of these immigrants,” said Therie in a statement.

According to him, Yepthomi’s statement was not in the interest of the Naga people.
