Chetheba town, Dec. 19 (EMN): Team Junior Runumole beat Team Huskers 39-24 during the second semifinal match of the 1st Winter Open Basketball Challenger to set up a final clash against D Ballers, Kohima at Chetheba local ground on Tuesday.
The final match will be played on Wednesday at 9 am at the local ground. The two day event is organised by Team Huskers.
While in the first semifinal match, D Ballers team from Kohima beat Team Mystic Ballers 46-36 to enter the finals.
In the quarter final matches, Team Junior Runumole beat Splash Brothers 28-16 and D. Ballers beat Road Runners 55-35. The winner of the tournament will walk home with a cash prize of INR 20,000, while the runners-up will receive cash prize of INR 10,000.
Earlier, Zapose Dawhou, Associate pastor, Chetheba Town Baptist Church who attended the inaugural session as the special guest said the event should not limit to tournament but also a platform to create friendship among the playing team. He also lauded the initiative taken by the organising team and encouraged the playing team to play through sportsmanship.
Sekhozo Rhakho, president Team Huskers in his welcome address said sports being a powerful force that can unite the humanity and society, the club in thier step to such a cause is organising the first Winter Open Basketball tournament.
Nine teams including three from Kohima district are participating in the tournament. The other teams are Team Riders, Team Road Runners, 90's Classic, Splash Brothers, Valiant.
