Jungle fire at Khensa village extinguished

Mokokchung, March 3 (EMN):
Personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services, as well as volunteers from Yimyu ward and Khensa village brought the raging jungle fire under control at Khensa village jurisdiction on Wednesday.

Sources revealed that the jungle fire, which was reported to have started on the afternoon of March 2 under Khensa village jurisdiction, was brought under control after battling for more than 24 hours.

EAC Ongpangkong, Sangpangchang Longkumer, who had inspected the spot, confirmed that the raging fire which started from Tzuza River has been finally doused off at around 4 pm.

Khensa village council chairman, Imtitoshi, reported that hundreds of volunteers from Yimyu ward and Khensa village were able to control the jungle fire at around 11 pm last night (March 2). However, the sightings of smokes emerging from various locations and reigniting of fire from leftover debris by gusty wind were reported to the village council on Wednesday morning.

He added that more than 150 volunteers from Yimyu ward and Khensa village were remobilised again to douse off the fire. It was finally brought under control before spreading to other parts of the pristine forest by late afternoon, he added.

He has thanked the timely intervention from the SDRF and the Fire and Emergency Services along with assistance provided by the church, student unions and the Watsu units of both Yimyu and Khensa.

EAC Ongpangkong informed that no casualty was reported during the operation.
