DIMAPUR — A Joint Kisan Gosthi programme under the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) for three blocks—Chizami, Pfutsero, and Kikruma—was held at the Horticulture Research Farm (HRF), Pfutsero, Phek, on February 14.
According to a DIPR report, the objective was to strengthen farmer-scientist interaction, promote scientific agriculture practices, and create awareness of value-addition resources.
The programme was attended by MLA Dr. Neisatuo Mero as the guest of honour.
In his address, Dr. Mero encouraged farmers to adopt scientific methods to make effective use of government programmes for agricultural development. He emphasised the importance of innovation, conservation of local resources, and collaborative efforts between farmers and technical agencies for long-term sustainability and income enhancement.
The technical session was conducted by Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist and Head of ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Phek, and David Ng, Spices Board of India. They spoke on the prospect of spice cultivation in the region and emphasised quality improvement, organised production, and market linkages as important components for increasing farmers’ income.
Kelhouzakie Chalie, SDHO Pfutsero, highlighted the ongoing horticultural schemes, crop diversification strategies, and development initiatives aimed at improving productivity and sustainability in the horticultural sector.
Meanwhile, Zalekhu Lohe, inspector at SDHO, Pfutsero, spoke on pests, diseases, and their biological control.
