Johnny Depp’s ‘Black Mass’ to premiere at Venice Film Festival

Johnny Depp-starrer “Black Mass”, directed by Scott Cooper, will have its world premiere at the 72nd Venice Film Festival, out-of-competition, the fest has announced.
The film is scheduled for Friday September 4 screening, in the Sala Grande venue in the Lido’s Palazzo del Cinema, reported Variety. Black Mass is a biopic of Boston gangster James “Whitey” Bulger, played by Depp, who became an FBI informant and used this status to eliminate criminal competition during the 1970s, ‘80s, and early ‘90s.
The film also stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon, Joel Edgerton and Peter Sarsgaard in pivotal roles.
Based on the book of Dick Lehr and Gerar O’Neill, the screenplay of the film is by Mark Mallouk and Jez Butterworth of Get on Up fame.
Director Baltasar Kormakur’s mountain climbing thriller Everest starring Jake Gyllenhaal, will open the festival on September 2.
The Venice Film Festival will run till September 12.
