DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 21

THE 2-day ‘Job Oriented Skill Development Mela 2013’concluded on Thursday at Agri Expo, Dimapur with 6,976 benefitting youth coming from every corner of Nagaland.
Altogether 27 local companies, 67 Vocational Training Providers (VTP) and many national recruitment companies took active participation during this two-day Mela.“The youths from Western and Southern region of Nagaland were much higher in number while Northern and Eastern parts were lesser than expected,” Y. Vandanshan Lotha, Additional Director, Department of Employment & Craftsman Training, Government of Nagaland said.
He also stated that youths finding employment outside Nagaland will not only help the growth of the state economy but will also help an individual to become responsible and will also solve dependency problem.
Y. Vandanshan Lotha also mentioned that the Union Ministry of Labour is funding 100% training fees for the selected candidates through the State Government, where 40% of the training fees will be paid to the VTPs after signing of MoU with them.
The VTPs and recruitment companies gave power point presentations that explained the courses they had to offer and the qualifications needed to apply for the courses to interested students and job seekers at Angh Hall today.
During the mela it was also learnt that many companies were of the view that Naga youths are facing ‘shortage of skilled workers’ and according to their capability VTPs and various industries are ready to impart the required training and skills to interested youths.
The Director of Employment and Craftsmen Training, Muthingnyuba Sangtam at the final briefing with the VTPs said that the Department will maintain close contact with the VTPs for better coordination and also for the welfare of the selected candidates, and mentioned the officials will be visiting the institutes from time to time.
While the candidates selected for training will undergo free training for a maximum period of 6 months and in addition a minimum journey expenditure, food and boarding will be borne by the Government of India during the training period which will last for a maximum of six months.
The Government in order to look after the welfare of the selected candidates has tied up with YouthNet. Selected candidates will be given basic briefing by YouthNet on different working and cultural settings to be faced outside, in addition to getting assurance of their parents. YouthNet will also be communicating with the candidates wherever they are placed and check their conditions and grievances.
The Mela concluded with a hope for a better tomorrow while the exact figure of selected candidates for the training will be known tomorrow after verification is done by the Vocational Training Providers (VTP) and company.
