MOKOKCHUNG — The platinum jubilee celebration of Jangpetpkong Students’ Conference (JKTM), which was underway at Alongkima village, Mokokchung, on the theme ‘Mita Yanglushidi’ culminated on Tuesday with Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, as the special guest.

Longkumer, addressing the gathering, spoke on the inevitability of change in the 21st century’s fast-paced global society and stressed the importance of unity, attributing the tag ‘Land of Pioneers’ to the collective efforts of Ao people across various generations and professions.

Acknowledging the historical contributions of the Ao people, including the introduction of Christianity in Nagaland, and their achievements in education, bureaucracy, sports, and literature, he challenged the community to embody the qualities of their pioneers, which are bravery, boldness, hard work, innovation, and a solution-oriented approach.

He emphasised the state’s commitment to meritocracy and transparency, challenging students to choose between development and employment and urging them to seek exposure experiences outside Nagaland.

Longkumer encouraged parents to be confident in sending their children beyond the state’s borders, questioned dependence on Kohima, and stressed the need for self-sufficiency. He also urged the community to reform and build on their legacy.

On the occasion, the editorial board convenor, Dr. Walunir, presided over the presentation of the platinum jubilee souvenir book, which was released by the special guest while Arep Tzüdir, pastor of Kohima Ao Baptist Church, spoke on ‘Tera dangi meyipdi’, which translates to ‘Back to the roots’.

Changki Kaketshir Telongjem performed the jubilee song.
