DIMAPUR — The Joint Council Forum (JCF) of NST Colony, Churches Colony, and Middle Point has praised the ban on discos and nightclubs, along with the immediate cessation of their operations announced by the NSCN (IM) UT.

In a press release, the forum said that the ‘sagacious decision of imposing a rigorous penalty on those involved in the sale of prohibited substances and also cautioning its own members of a strict disciplinary action if they are found involving in any misconduct or untoward incidents was indeed laudable. Such steps win the trust and favour of the general public’.

The JCF has also called upon the churches, district administration and prominent CSOs of Dimapur to question the landlords and proprietors who house and run these outlets.

Stating that these so called restro-bars, lounges, and nightclubs have completely disrupted the peace and tranquility of localities and neighbourhoods, causing sleepless nights by their loud music, drunken brawls and innumerable immoral activities at late nights and at wee hours, the JCF said that students appearing for their exams are facing a harrowing time by these detestable activities.

The JCF also demanded that the trade licences of these outlets be immediately cancelled by the district administration.

“Many youths, especially underage girls, indulging in late night immoral activities have brought personal and family problems, leading to the moral decay of our Naga society,” read the statement, adding that frequent incidents of street brawls in the past have even led to the loss of lives of some youths, but these incidents were hushed up with reasons best known to the leaders concerned.

“It is time we call a spade a spade and remove all unwanted activities from our society,” it concluded.
