DIMAPUR — The Joint Council Forum (JCF) comprising NST Colony, Churches Colony and Middle Point in Dimapur, a joint meeting held on April 17, expressed its disapproval and condemnation towards proliferation unions and associations within its jurisdiction.

The forum alleged that those organizations, cloaked in fancy names, have been unlawfully soliciting donations, monthly collections and membership fees from the business community without any legitimate authority. It stated that multiple taxations not only by Naga political groups (NPG) but countless numbers of collections by myriad of organisations have become unbearable for the business community as well as the common public.

JCF has called upon the district authority to consult respective colony councils and exercise vigilance and refrain from endorsing those unions and associations.

“It is unacceptable that multi fraudulent entities operate freely in almost all the vicinity of Dimapur district, perpetuating confusion and distress among our business community and citizens alike,” the council stated.

It urged various responsible civil society organisations not to appeal/ pressure the authorities for recognising such unions/ associations. It also stressed on the need to address the problem at hand and issue stern warning to all those entities by urging them to cease their activities within its jurisdiction.

“Should they fail to adhere to our demands, the joint councils will not hesitate to take swift and firm actions, including resorting to legal measures to shut down these deceitful operations,” the forum warned.

The forum pointed out that the detrimental impact of those groups is evident in the unjust burden placed upon the business owners and residents, leading to inflated commodity prices and contributing to the prevailing chaos in Dimapur district. It added that the unchecked proliferation of such organisations only adds to the woes of the community, fostering illegal taxation and disrupting the peace and order in their area.

Meanwhile, the forum urged all businesses and residents to exercise caution and vigilance in dealing with those organisations and to promptly report any suspicious activity to them.

“Together, let us unite in our efforts to eradicate this unlawful behavior and safeguard the well-being of our community, ensuring a harmonious and secure environment for all,” the forum appealed.

The forum further informed to all the concerned that the ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) earlier issued by some council/ council members for registration of such unions/ association would stand cancelled.
