Dimapur, July 15 (EMN):
Japukong Kaketshir Mundang (JKM) has appealed to the concerned department to upgrade the police outpost at Longchem by appointing a sub-inspector (SI) and havildar at the earliest as the Japukong range in Mokokchung district shares boundary with Assam.

JKM made this appeal during its visit to Saring village and Nagaland Police camp at Saring village along with the members of Ao Kaketshir Mundang (AKM) on July 14. The two organisations visited Saring village to get a first-hand knowledge pertaining to an incident that happened on July 12.

JKM information secretary Yanger informed that the village council and Nagaland Police thanked the NGOs for their visit and encouragement. He added that JKM had also donated some essential commodities to Nagaland Police personnel posted at Saring village under Mangkolemba sub-division.

It was informed that the police personnel are staying in a rented house at Saring village with a strength of only nine police constables. As the existing police personnel cannot cover the whole area, JKM has requested the concerned department to upgrade the police camp into an outpost and to reinforce with more manpower at the earliest.

JKM has also appealed to complete the foothill road at the earliest, since the people from Assam are 'taking advantage as they don't have other linked road connecting to other parts of the state.'

On July 12, one police personnel of 2nd NAP on duty at Saring village gate was injured by a group of miscreants from the neighbouring village of Naganijan from Assam.

As per the report, around 20 to 30 people armed with machete and spear arrived at the police check gate near Saring village in search of a lost cow, which they suspected the Saring people of stealing.

The incident happened when the Saring Village Council (SVC) members and youth volunteers along with police personnel were manning the check-gate in order to check the movement of people due to Covid-19.

According to report, one police personnel was injured on his left toe when one of the miscreants cut through his boots during the commotion.

However, the situation was later brought under control after police teams from both side held a meeting on July 13 in the presence of members from SVC, Japukong Youth Organisation and Japukong Students’ Union.
