Japfu cultural troupe enthralls audience on I-Day

Dimapur, Aug. 15 (EMN): The Japfu Cultural troupe enthralled the audience with their performance of  “Thenyi Nashu” (festival dance) during the 72nd Independence Day celebration at Kohima. A DIPR news bulletin informed that the “Thenyi Nashu” (festival dance) is a dance performed by men folks during major festivals like Sekrenyi on certain occasions including ‘gate pulling and jubilee celebration.The release while describing about the festival stated: the women folk also follow the performance with food items during Thenyi Nashu of the community feast; Phita Nashu”(stepping dance) is a dance performed by young people showcasing their skills among their age groups and community; “Ozhie Ongu” (Warrior attires”) is a dance performed by elderly persons to protect the younger warriors from enemies while dancing or working in the fields.The Chang cultural troupe performed the ‘Changsang Dombu Edou’ called “Shangpeli Folk song”. The song conveyed a message of the jubilation along with the Nagas of peace loving people gifted with wisdom and to let the leaders of Naga be united to eradicate all problems. The Rengma cultural troupe performed “Ngada” Folk dance which depicted the rich and poor share with each other without any distinction. It is a festival where the wrong doings of individuals against each other are forgiven and forgotten. It also marks the remembrance of the death ones by offering drinks and food at their graveyard. Warrior folk dance performed by Surumi cultural troupe, Kohima of Sumi tribe signifies to glorify the heroic deeds of forefathers. The warrior dance depicted the fearful moves of slaying enemies practice during the hunting days and wars and also to induce fear in the mind of the enemies and to celebrate happiness and God’s abundant blessings.
