Janata Dal (United) high-powered delegation led by party president in Nagaland

Dimapur, June 29 (EMN):
A six-member high-powered delegation of the Janata Dal (United) led by its national president Rajiv Rajan Singh alias Lalan Singh is in Nagaland to meet the Naga civil society organisations and present the voice of the people to the government of India, in an effort to contribute towards peace in the state.

Speaking to media persons on their arrival at Dimapur airport on Wednesday, JD(U) president, who is also an MP (Lok Sabha), said the party is serious about the situation in Nagaland.

‘We have come to assess the latest position of the peace process because Nagaland needs peace. We are for peace in Nagaland and we will do it whatever we could do,’ said Rajan Singh.

While acknowledging that Nagaland has been placed under disturbed area for too long, Singh felt that ‘it is time the state enjoy peace’. He has also assured to carry forward the suggestions outlined by its founding member and peace missionary to Nagaland, Jaya Prakash Narayan, during the 1960s.

The six-member high-powered delegation included Ranjan Singh; JD(U) national general secretary Northeast in-charge, Afaque Ahmed Khan; JD(U) national general secretary, Harshvardhan Singh; Lok Sabha MP, Kaushalendra Kumar; Lok Sabha MP, Ramprit Mandal; and Rajya Sabha MP, Aneel Prasad Hegde.

The delegation was given a civic reception by JD(U) workers on their arrival at Dimapur airport, after which they left for Kohima.

Sources from the party informed that the delegation will hold meeting with various civil society organisations in Kohima.

The delegation is in Nagaland to pay tribute to Jaya Prakash Narayan, member of peace mission. The team will also visit the grave of late AZ Phizo in Kohima on June 30.
