Jal Jeevan Mission implementation in Nagaland is only 54%, says Union Minister

Kohima, Dec. 5 (EMN): Union Minister of State for Jal Jeevan and Tribal Affairs, Bishweswar Tudu on Monday said the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) implementation in the state is only 54%.
He said this mission, which aims at providing safe drinking water to households via tap connections, couldn’t be completed in some areas due to the hilly terrain.
Tudu, who is on his maiden visit to Nagaland, informed this during a press conference held after a review meeting at the Secretariat in the state capital.
However, the minister said that his ministry is planning to finish tap water connection projects by 2023 end or first quarter of 2024, while assuring to look into the projects that are facing issues.
He said the 80-90% of the mission will be covered by the end of 2023.
On the Tribal Affairs Ministry, he informed that out of 11 Eklavya Model Residential Schools, 10 have started and one could not commence due to land issue.
Apprising that most of the community halls are under construction, he said food processing units and handicrafts have also been marketed by the department among other developmental works.
The minister briefed how the ministry is encouraging tribal groups to take up agri and horti-based activities for economic growth. Informing that the Centre has sanctioned INR 25 lakh to each village for development projects, he said he would be inspecting the progress of projects taken up under his ministry.
