Jakhama holds panel discussion on challenges of unemployment

Dimapur, May 25 (EMN): Department of Sociology (PG studies), St. Joseph’s College (A), Jakhama organised an inter-disciplinary panel discussion on deconstructing the challenges of unemployment among the educated Naga youth on Wednesday.

Fr. Dr. George Keduolhou Agnami, the principal, Sr. Dr. Ranit SABS, the vice-principal, Fr. Dr. George Pezalhoukho Rino, the PG coordinator, the teaching staff and the students of the PG studies of the college attended the event.

The department of Sociology also released a book entitled ‘Sociologically Imagining Beyond Boundaries’ the work of the staff and students of the department, published by TDCC publications.

Moderator, Dr. Khobu Tsolo led the panel discussion where five panellists, one each from the five departments in PG studies presented their sub-divided topics. Lorence Ngushe presented his talk from social perspective while Rudivinuo Kense talked from the political point of view.

Vekhotalu spoke from economics perspective while Rokovili spoke in relation to the pandemic that happened two years ago. Benchilo Lotha spoke from the perspective of gender for the unemployment among the Naga youth, an update from the college stated.

 Through the discussions, the students observed that ‘government job’ is not the only job and the educated Naga youth must venture out into other avenues for employment. The rising rate of unemployment in Nagaland should not be increased each year with passing out of graduates from higher educational institutions, it read.

The programme came to an end with distributions of mementoes to the panelists, it added.
