Dimapur, Jan. 27: Joint Action Committee on Women Reservation (JACWR) has resolved to withdraw the Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the interest of peace in the society before the elections on the condition only if the State government could give a written assurance for conduct of municipal polls as per the Interim order.
The resolution to this effect was taken during a joint meeting with all its tribe constituent units and apex women organisations at Hotel Japfu, Kohima, on January 26.
Deliberating on reports of alleged threats, coercion, forced withdrawal of women candidates from different towns, JACWR has strongly condemned such ‘undemocratic actions.’
A large delegation of women leaders also called on the chief minister at his residential office and submitted a memorandum after the meeting. JACWR convenors Abeiu Meru and Dr. Rosemary Dzuvichu said the chief minister's reply is expected after the cabinet meeting on January 27.
