DIMAPUR — Minister of Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) and Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi, on Wednesday made a fervent call to all the Naga tribes to come together under one platform in order to progress as one, socially, politically and economically.

The minister stated this during the inaugural function of a three-day Poanglum festival of the Chang community at Sejung ground in Tuensang village. The event was organised by Tuensang Sang Staff Thangjam.

Zhimomi, who was the special guest of the event, fervently appealed to all the 17 Naga tribes to unite so as to sail in one boat as Nagas to make strong and prosperous Nagaland.

He mentioned that Nagas were strong and united prior to attaining statehood. He, however, stated that each tribe gradually turned against one another and no tribe was ready to forgive which deeply hampered on the developmental front. He questioned how long the Nagas should keep on fighting among themselves in a small area of 16000 sq. km of land.

He encouraged the gathering to be patient and work hard at the same time mentioning that better days are approaching.

The minister stated that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has ensured development at all levels from villages to metropolitan cities and highlighted that scarcity of water, irregular supply of electricity, bad roads etc. would soon become a thing of the past. He added that healthcare insurance, LPG connection and railway connectivity etc. have made lives easier in Nagaland, especially in the rural areas.

He further challenged the Naga youth to reclaim work culture and set an example for the upcoming generation to follow suit. He also emphasised on the importance of education for all round development.
