Dimapur, March 4 (EMN): With the restoration of long awaited Dhobinulla- Signal Angami- Thahekhu road during 2015-16, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) today raised concern over the damage on drain slab due to haphazard parking of heavy trucks particularly along the stretch between Army Supply Depot and IFC godown area.
JAC convenor KK Yepthomi, in a press release, claimed that most of the drain slabs along the stretch between Army Supply Depot, IFC godown area etc, which was thinly constructed, has began to take its toll. It said regular practise of army’s heavy vehicle parking over the drain slab pavements near the Depot was found to have a detrimental effect causing break-ins which were already in a critical condition.
It said owing to haphazard parking by Army vehicles in the Depot area, vehicular accidents happen quite often, adding several cases of injury to humans have also been reported after they fall into the break-in slabs.
JAC has also drawn the attention of the district administration and department concerned about a fence constructed along the stretch by Army which amounted to encroaching on public property and road.
Stating that the road was constructed by employing new German technology with an expected life span of 15 years, JAC however said within a year of its construction almost all the drainage slabs have been damaged and the road was on the verge of losing its much-acclaimed German technology tag. It stated that if the situation is not arrested immediately, the deterioration of the road will be more serious.
In the light of the above stated facts and problems, JAC made a fervent appeal to the concerned authority to initiate proper drainage system and construct durable slabs which could also serve as a strong and safe pavement for the pedestrians.
Meanwhile, JAC expressed gratitude to the PWD, Department of Roads & Bridges and Minister in-charge Y Vikheho Swu for constructing the said road. The JAC compromises of 11 villages/colonies.
