DIMAPUR — The Joint Action Committee (JAC) NH-129A Peren Town, comprising civil society organisations and Peren Village Council, on Thursday said that it will not re-impose blockade on NH-29 A.
The committee had earlier imposed blockade on NH-29 A (Peren to Maram stretch), alleging that the NHIDCL was “reluctant to construct the NH as per original DPR and contract agreement” for the Peren Town portion measuring approximately 2.8 km.
However, the JAC called off the blockade on August 9 after the NHIDCL assured to address its demand. The committee had also given a 15-day deadline to the NHIDCL to fulfil its demand – completion the Peren town portion.
On the eve of expiry of the deadline, a JAC member told Eastern Mirror that the blockade will not be re-imposed as “things are moving in the right direction.”
“The technical and design team from NHIDCL came yesterday and we had a meeting with them. Things are moving at the right direction,” he said.
The CSOs in Peren headed by the JAC had been demanding the completion of the Peren town stretch of the NH-129A 2-lane project.
It may be mentioned that against the backdrop of the blockade imposed by the CSOs on NH-129A at Tepuiki Bridge since July 31, a public meeting was held on August 9, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang and NHIDCL officials.
