JAC demands justice for the death of couple

IMPHAL — A newly formed Joint Action Committee (JAC) in connection with the killing of a husband and wife in a tragic accident on Tuesday has demanded justice and urged the state chief minister, N Biren Singh, to take up necessary steps so as to fulfill their demands within three days.

The demands of the JAC according to reports available included immediate arrest of the owner of the truck (Bishwajit Dey of Kamrup,Assam) involved in the accident, a government job to the next kin of the deceased’s family, necessary ex-gratia and compensation for damage Bolero and expenditure incurred in medical treatment.

On November 15 around 4:30 pm, a couple Z Asongbou (43) and Amangliu Pamai (44) died while their three children were left with injuries in a road mishap which took place along National Highway 2 at a spot between G Kholep and Monpijang located about 3 km south of Saparmeina police station under Kangpokpi district of Manipur.

A case has been registered at Saparmeina police station and the driver and handyman of the truck (from Assam’s Kamrup) were also apprehended, according to reports.

The November 15 incident took place when the family of four, who came in a Bolero (MN06LB-5312) was hit by a truck (AS01PC-9144). The wife identified as Amangliu Pamai died on the, spot while the husband, Z Asongbou, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in Imphal on November 16. The victims were from Tamenglong.

According to the JAC, two other occupants of the Bolero namely Joshibou Zuinamai (22) and Pousanwibou Zuinamai (21), who are sons of the deceased, sustained multiple injuries and are undergoing medical treatment.
